Ouch!

Why is it that during the only week off I have had for months, does my body decide to get sick???

Okay, so I didn't exactly have loads of plans for the week but being curled up on the couch doubled over in pain, and racing to the bathroom every half hour or so, isn't really my idea of a nice relaxing time!

No idea what it is, I've had stomach pains since the weekend off and on, but they have been awful today - too low down to just be indigestion, and not violent enough to be food poisoning... but very painful all the same. At least they have been intermittent so I get a break from them every so often... I wonder if it's the codeine that's causing it, I have been taking that for the muscle pains I get anyway, and they have been fairly bad this week... I know codeine can mess with your belly, but I usually just feel a bit sick for an hour or so after taking them, nothing like this.

If it's no better tomorrow, I will have to bite the bullet and go see the doctor... hmmmph

In other news I have done a little bit of cleaning and tidying today, nothing like as much as I hoped to get done, but a little bit is better than nothing. And LJ stopped by to pick up the cat cage I borrowed, she and PJ have new rescue mogs stopping with them for a few days and they needed it back. I got Vince and Howard from them, it was the first time she had seen them since they were about 9 weeks old... two dobbing great big tom cats now lol, she said it was lovely to see them looking so healthy and well looked after. I still can't believe someone just left them in a bin at 6 weeks old, it never ceases to amaze me how badly some people treat animals... but thanks to people like PJ and LJ, and everyone else who devotes their time to looking after rescued animals, at least some of them end up in good homes being loved and looked after. I think they do an amazing job.

Hmmm, thats all for today i think - nothing of any interest happening here lol

Week off

I'm off work for a week, no particular reason other than I just haven't had more than a couple of days off since March and I felt like a break. I may spend my time doing something productive, like cleaning and tidying the house, sorting through my wardrobe, or getting around to all those little jobs i keep meaning to do like painting the front door, defrosting the freezer and planting some stuff in the yard.

Or I may do bugger all except play runescape and watch telly - either way is good!

I got my cable TV sorted this weekend as well, it broke down earlier in the week and I was not impressed... rang Virgin, and they gave me an appointment for 6 days time. So the next day I decided that it was time to look at switching to another provider, all I'm hearing lately is people complaining about Virgin and it was expensive - I was paying about £62 for my TV package, broadband and phone line. So I rang them again and spoke to someone in customer services - they have cut the price of my package by almost half, they got me an engineer out 2 days faster, and put a credit on my bill so next month I don't have to pay anything at all... but i keep all the same stuff I have now.
And that is why I will recommend Virgin to others over Sky or BT... I had huge problems with Sky when I was with them years ago, they kept putting me on their premium packages without telling me, kept charging me for things I wasn't getting from them, and when i tried to leave they kept 'losing' any record of my having given them my notice. It was a nightmare, and since then I have always said that I would never ever go back to them. And although BT have a similar kind of package deal, it is expensive and according to the people I know who have it, it is very limited and very unreliable. But although Virgin do seem to be having some issues lately, they have always been good to me, and have always been helpful - as long as you talk to the customer service people specifically, not the ones in outsourced contact centres. They even paid for my ethernet cable when I got a new computer with a different operating system - cost all of £3, but it was the gesture that impressed me.

So today I went up to George to buy some new clothes... came back with yet another pair of black leggings, a couple of tops and a dress that looked amazing on the hanger but I'm not too sure about it now I have tried it on - I really love the design, so I may just try wearing it with different things... it is clingier than i thought it would be and it makes me look 9 months pregnant! But with a long cardigan (and not on the first day of my period when i'm at my most bloated and puffy) it might look better. I would have bought more, but there seems to be an awful lot of black and grey around at the moment... apart from the dress I bought and one of the tops, everything else was grey - I hate grey and wouldn't be seen dead in it! The only splashes of colour in the store were either vivid orange or sodding PINK which is even worse! It does annoy me, there were loads of other things that would have been lovely if they were in a different colour - I like bright colours, no grey, brown, beige or pink, and I get so bored wearing black all the time. Ah well, maybe next season colour will be fashionable again!

Tomorrow if it is dry enough I will paint the front door... I have bought the paint already, I want a red door. But if it is damp (which i suspect it will be) then I will try and make a start clearing out my wardrobe, I know I have loads of clothes that I would wear regularly, if I could only find them! They must be buried in there somewhere...

Handbag contents

I wonder why i feel the need to carry vast amounts of stuff around with me all the time? I'm sure I used to manage perfectly well with just pockets... Today I emptied my handbag out cos it was feeling a bit heavy, and this is what was in it....

Purse
House keys
Cigarettes and 2 lighters
Portable ashtray
Benadryl tablets
Paracetamol and Cocodamol
Sunglasses
Little drawstring bag of charms from various rituals
Belly dancing belt
Pair of poi
Body spray
Tax Credit renewal form
P60
Mobile phone
Hairbrush
Polos
Report from the vet
Plastic spoon
Bag of decorative coins (for sewing on to belly dancing belts)
2 little boxes of mixed tumblestones
Bottle of narcissus oil
12 make up items
Little mirror
Last weeks bus pass
Work ID badge
Silver bracelet
ipod
Rennies
£2.48 in loose change

Do I really have to cart all this stuff about with me every day? Thing is, my handbag looks small but it has Tardis-like properties... I can get all manner of shite in there and it will never fill up! At some point over the last 7 days I have used most of the above items, or come across some others and just dropped them in the bag until they surfaced again today (apart from the plastic spoon, I don't recall ever seeing it before!)

I have now taken most of the stuff out, I am at work for the next 4 days so I don't really need to have poi with me (unless I went out into the square at lunchtime and played with them... hmmm, thats a good idea!) and I am not gonna be doing any belly dancing or have any use for tumblestones. But it won't be long before the bag fills up again with more shite, there has to be a better way!

So what do I NEED on a daily basis? Well, on a workday I need my bus pass to get there, and my ID to get in the building. I need my house keys, and I need cigarettes and a lighter. I need my hairbrush, cos by the time I get to work it looks like I have a badly groomed yorkshire terrier on my head, and I need the narcissus oil so I smell nice. I also need my purse so I can buy things like milk, polos, cigarettes, etc. I also need painkillers just to get through the day.

But then I also take my breakfast and lunch to work with me, so thats a mullerlight, about 3 pieces of fruit, a sandwich, and a jar of coffee about once a fortnight. And when I buy milk and stuff on my way to work, I need somewhere to put it all... so I do need my handbag, and it has to be one that can hold a lot of things!

Hmmm, I don't think I'll be able to give up using one for a while...

Catching Up Again

I haven't been on here for ages, mostly because I didn't have a google account until today and it was a real performance logging in without one... hopefully that is sorted now and I can go back to wittering on regularly, lol

Soooo... whats new?

I have started to venture out and about again after a difficult and painful Winter - I took time out from the coven from Samhain, and really just went into hibernation. At that time, I had to focus on just attending work - after being off sick I was in danger of disciplinary action and it was taking every bit of energy I had just to get to work every day and have no more time off. I am pleased to report that I was successful, and now have the breathing space I need, without the constant threat of formal action hanging over me.
With that in mind, I then looked at getting my social life back up and running a couple of months ago... working 5 days a week was not giving me enough time to recover over the weekend AND go out and enjoy myself as well, so for the last 4 or 5 weeks I have been working a compressed week. This means that I work longer days Monday to Thursday, then take Friday off as flexi. Although I now have to work 7am til about 5.30pm instead of 3.30pm, it really is worth it - a 3 day weekend is long enough to catch myself up and still have time to do something with my friends. My flexitime is looking healthier than it has done in years too, I am currently in credit for the first time in ages! So again, that give me some breathing space for those bad days where I really do have to go home early, and also for extra days off if I need them.

So over the last 5 or 6 weeks I have been going out and about again... I went to J's and LS's birthday camp, held at J's relatives farm - only stayed a couple of hours, but it was nice to see everyone and catch up a bit, and nice just to be out! I went to Pendle Witch camp for the day with SC, another good day seeing everyone and catching up, I didn't actually want to go home when JK came to pick us up lol. I've been back into circle for a Morrigan ritual, which was really good - gave me a good boost, and I am now seriously considering going back to the coven full time. There was the full moon fire party down by the docks, and of course there was PaganCon a couple of weeks ago. So I've been keeping fairly busy, but doing it all at a manageable level.

Earlier this year, I went to Luxor for a week with SC, MJ, JW, SS and TW. I had a fantastic week of rest and relaxation, I spent most of my days on the bar terrace by the Nile with my ipod and a book, and some mint tea, before going to the pool in the afternoons and having a swim. I did go on one trip down to Aswan and the temples of Edfu and Philae which was a really good day - the driver took us to his sisters house near Kom Ombo for our tea on the way back, whivh was really nice. In the evenings we would all meet up and go out for tea - either to El-Sahaby or Husseins in Karnak, and a couple of times to the Winter Palace where the guy who runs the shishka garden was delighted to see us again lol! It was exactly what I needed at the time, and i think now that holidays somewhere sunny where I can just chill out are the way forward. Next year, we are planning to go to Cancun!

So what else is happening? Well, tonight I am meant to be going and playing with poi at SC's place, although it is dependent on my getting a lift - I have absolutely no money this month after paying £145 to the emergency vet last week, when Vince came home with a swollen paw. I'm kind of tired, so I'm not all together bothered if I can't go, although if someone does offer to drive me then I will - and I will enjoy it anyway lol

The cats are doing well, apart from Vince's little mishap last week... the vet thinks he was stung by a wasp or hornet, so he has been on antibiotics all week. But other than that, they are fine - they are huge now, Howard is about 12lb and Vince is about 13lb, and really big builds. Vince is still the laid back one, and Howard is still the active one - they are both very sweet natured boys though, and it is lovely to see them doing so well.

I'm dieting again as well, lol, the long workdays actually make it easier cos I do tend to eat healthily at work! 2 weeks on and 5 lb down, so it's a start... if I can lose a stone by the Woodspirit camp next month I'll be happy with that.

Hmmm, think thats it for now - I have to go the shops, and let the cats out for the day... back later, I will try and keep the blog up now, see how long that lasts!
